Do you have a question about SENTRY® Fiproguard®? Use these frequently asked questions as a guide. Or contact us for more information.

I used SentryPro XFT in the past and my dog had a reaction. Is SENTRY Fiproguard Plus ok to use?

The active ingredient in the SENTRY Fiproguard Plus for Dogs is fipronil, which is a different active ingredient than SentryPro XFT. Although rare, sensitivities may occur after using ANY pesticide product on dogs. If signs of sensitivity occur, bathe your dog with mild, degreasing dish soap and rinse with large amounts of water.

How often can I apply SENTRY Fiproguard Plus?

You should not reapply the product any more often than once every four weeks.

I am confused by the directions on the package. Do I apply the product just between the shoulder blades or do I run it all the way down the dog’s back?

For dogs 4-88 lbs., apply one tube as a spot on the dog’s back between the shoulder blades. For dogs 89-132 lbs., apply one tube from the back of the neck to a point midway between the neck and tail.

My pet still has fleas on his belly. Can I apply the product directly on the stomach?

No. We only recommend applying the product according to labeled instructions, as a spot between the shoulder blades. This will help to prevent accidental ingestion of the product.

Can I bathe my dog with a flea and tick shampoo and then apply the product?

We do not recommend doubling up on any flea and tick treatment as this can be dangerous to your pet. If you decide to bathe your dog with a flea and tick shampoo, we would recommend waiting the recommended time that the shampoo is active before applying the product. If you bathe your dog with a regular grooming shampoo, you can apply the product as soon as the dog’s coat is completely dry, usually about 12 hours.

Can I put a flea and tick collar on my dog or cat after I have applied the product?

No, we do not recommend using ANY other product in combination with the product as this can be dangerous to your pet. The product should be sufficient in killing fleas and ticks.

Can my children play with the dog or cat after I’ve applied the product?

We recommend separating children and pets until the product has had a chance to dry for 24-48 hours.

If I’m using this product do I still need to give my dog his heartworm medication?

Yes as this product is not intended to treat or prevent heartworm. Heartworm is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito; we would not recommend discontinuing use of heartworm medication unless instructed to do so by your veterinarian.

The products made my pet's hair greasy at the application site. Should it do this?

Once the product has dried on your pet’s skin, the application site should not appear greasy. However, if some of the product did get caught in your pet’s hair it could cause a greasy appearance. If the pet’s hair still appears greasy 48 hours after application, we would recommend using a wet washcloth or paper towel to wipe the excess product off the fur.

I have a cat that plays closely with and/or grooms my dog. Will this product be ok to use?

Yes, it is ok to use this product if you have a cat in your home. We do recommend separating your pets until the product has had a chance to dry for 24-48 hours. This will help to eliminate the chance of your cat grooming and ingesting the product off of your dog.
